Common questions about tutoring
Anything not answered here, email hello@evagelberger.ca and Eva will reply personally.
Who does Eva tutor?
Mostly children in Grades 3 to 6, and also Grade 2 and Grade 7, who need help with math, reading or writing. Most are behind, stuck, or losing confidence. Some are doing fine on paper but their parents can tell something is off.
Where do sessions happen?
In your home, in North York, Leaside, Thornhill, Richmond Hill and Vaughan, or online anywhere in Ontario.
Is there a travel fee?
No travel fee in North York, York Mills, Don Mills and Lawrence Park. $15 per visit in Leaside, Midtown, Thornhill, Richmond Hill and Vaughan. Online sessions have no travel fee.
How long and how often?
60 minutes for Grades 4 to 7, and 45 minutes for Grades 2 and 3. Most children come once a week. Twice a week can help for a few weeks when a child is far behind.
What does it cost?
Grades 4 to 7: $100 for the first session, $80 per weekly session, or $600 for a block of 8. Grades 2 and 3: $80 for the first session, $64 per session, or $480 for a block of 8. No contracts.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel or reschedule free with at least 24 hours notice. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged in full.
Do you follow the Ontario curriculum?
Yes. Sessions connect to the Ontario curriculum for your child's grade and to what their class is working on now.
How is this different from a learning centre?
Your child works one to one with an experienced classroom teacher, at home, not in a worksheet program. Eva finds the missing piece first, then teaches it until it holds, and ties it to your child's actual school work.
What happens in the first session?
Eva works with your child, gets a sense of what is solid and where the gap begins, and sends you a short written note with what she suggests next.
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No. Most families Eva works with don't have one. She also works with children who have ADHD, dyslexia or another diagnosis, alongside any other support they get.
Can Eva diagnose dyslexia or ADHD?
No. Diagnosis is the work of a psychologist or physician. If Eva thinks an assessment would help, she will say so and explain what to ask for.
What happens from January to March?
All sessions run online during those months, at the same weekly time. Most families find the switch easy.
How quickly will Eva reply?
Within one business day of your message.
What are Eva's qualifications?
Ontario Certified Teacher, 17 years in Ontario public elementary classrooms, Special Education Additional Qualification Part 1, and a Master of Environmental Studies.
What is the Learning Roadmap?
A written review of your child's report card and schoolwork, with a clear plan of what to do first. It is $199, done entirely online, and useful if you are not yet sure whether tutoring is the right step.
Book a first session
Tell Eva a little about your child. She replies personally within one business day. No obligation.
The first session is where Eva finds the starting point: what your child already has solid, and where the gap begins. Every plan after that is built from it.
